Caring for your pets nails
By · CommentsCaring for your pets nails
It is important to keep your pets nails trimmed, even when you regularly get your pet groomed. The nails grow at a faster rate than your pets hair, therefore, you need to either know how to keep them up yourself in-between grooms, or take your pet to the groomer when you notice the nails are growing too long. Here at All Pets Grooming, we trim your pets nails in-between grooms as a complimentary service. It is time to trim the nails when you can hear them clicking when you walk your pet, or you hear them clicking on your floors. Other ways to recognize the need is when your pet chews on his feet or you just notice the toes turning to the sides.
The first rule to follow is to be careful of the nail quiks. This is the equivalent of our “nailbeds”, the blood supply to the nails. To cut into the quik is painful to your pet, just as it is to cut into our nailbed. In a pet with white nails, the quik is easier to see, therefore, easier to do at home. In a dog with dark or black nails, the quik cannot be seen, thus the risk of hitting the quik is greater. It is recommended you have a professional either do the nails for you or show you the proper way.

bug bites on dogs
By · CommentsHidden Monsters
Ever wonder why your dog or cat continues to scratch or bite at his feet or other areas on his body even though you have a flea and tick preventative on him? And when you look at his body, you don’t see any creatures crawling on your pet?
This happened to me recently with one of our pets and I thought I would share the information. I was walking my dog in a grassy area that looked harmless, rather inviting. A short time later I noticed my dog was scratching himself raw, but I saw nothing. I bathed him in a flea shampoo, even though he was on Comfortis, used a medicated skin treatment, etc. Nothing seemed to help him.
Out of rustration, I walked over to the grassy area where I had taken my dog. I was in my summer flip-flops, standing in the grass, looking around, when I suddenly felt pain in both my feet, looked down and noticed ants on my feet. These weren’t just any ants! They were fire ants. Yes, they like to bite our dogs and cats too. So please be careful where you take your pet to walk or exercise.
A hot summer has passed, the cool evenings are here and the return of our winter clients is upon us.
The change in climate can cause dog skin problems in the Florida heat and humidity. It is necessary to keep your dog clean and short as possible for the breed. If you keep them long haired, you must groom them more often. A reminder to all those who give baths to their dogs at home, ALWAYS brush/ comb out thoroughly before you give them a bath, otherwise you get the dead hair mixed with live hair and it mats worse when it drys. Read more of my blogs and make some comments yourself.
The Flea Treatment That Works
By · CommentsWe started using a pill called Confortist that last for 30 days and it really works no more scratching and itching. your Veterinarian will carry these pills. We have seen dogs that had flea allergies with red skin, hair falling out and scads all be cured from this pill. We do treat the dog with a product called “Hot Spot by Jude” to clear up the allergies ( only used at pet grooming salons ) this is a $40.00 one time treatment but works great.
Then with the Confortist pill given once a month you will never have these flea associated problems again.

We are using a new product for hot spots and sore skin that works great only sold to groomers. The name is HOT SPOTS by JUDE. this is a two part system we do a scrub down with HOT SPOT on your dog and rinse. then part two, you take with you a tube of anti itch cream with a bitter agent that stops them from chewing.
Check Your Pets Teeth They Maybe Worse Then You Think
By · CommentsMany of my clients, who otherwise take great care of their dogs, have dogs with bad teeth. We offer brushing to maintain them, but if they are full of decay or not kept up, it may get costly with dental bills and the dogs suffer. They will have bad breath and in time their teeth will fall out or have to be removed. This is both painful and costly . The answer is to brush more and give the dogs raw bones from your local butcher. Did you ever see a dog with no front teeth? They can’t keep their tongue in their mouth and it can dry out, not a very pleasant site.
